“Via Danés’ voyeuristic lens, the viewer falls privy to a criminal investigation, taking up the role of detective in a mystifying plot.“
A subtle yet consistent thread in the work of Salvi Danés (b. 1985, Barcelona) is the landscape. Urban or rural, landscapes play an important role in the way his subjects and narratives are framed, with past projects set in Moscow, Tokyo and Barcelona, as well as deep in the Catalonian countryside. Danés takes a documentary style approach to capture social scenarios as they happen, responding to subtle nuances and inflections with deep sensitivity. Conscious of the role photography plays in the way scenarios are understood, he leaves room for multiple interpretations in the narratives he constructs by honing his lens on details, symbols and motifs. Danés is based in Barcelona, where he was born and raised.
