Combining prose with photographs from an abandoned archive, Pablo Lerma’s multilayered photobook plays with history, memory and fiction.
Pablo Lerma (Barcelona 1986) is a visual artist and researcher based between New York and Amsterdam. His practice combines found materials (archives, documents, illustrations) with the artist’s own analogue photographs to reflect on themes of temporality, erosion and disappearance. These projects have taken the form of exhibitions and photobooks; his latest photobook Greenfield. The Archive was published by Meteoro Editions – a publishing house founded by Lerma himself. Alongside teaching photography at institutions in the Netherlands and the US, Lerma continues to work with archives, taking particular interest in creating counter narratives to represent marginalised and hidden queer histories, as well as expanding his own family’s photographic archive.
