Flaking paint, rusting metal and puddles of oil are reframed as sights of memory and unexpected beauty in Jo Dennis’ latest project.
Urban renewal, decay and memory are recurrent themes for multidisciplinary artist Jo Dennis (b.1973, Scotland). Fascinated by the histories of discarded objects, the artist's projects have been inspired by abandoned hotels, a derelict swimming pool, and a decaying car yard awaiting demolition. Coming from a background in painting, her work is defined by strong composition, and her textured images are often layered with paint and salvaged materials. Dennis is the co-founder of Peckham 24, an annual photography event in London.
