Forde endeavours to unveil the subtleties of both Buxton’s past and history itself through the tensions that arise between truth, memory and poetic fiction.
Influenced by academic studies in Literature and his passion for epic poetry, Ivan Forde’s (b. 1990, Guyana) work retells both historical and personal stories through a variety of physical processes; from cyanotypes to collage and other print-making processes, Forde also incorporates sound and performance to create a rich practice that is rooted in political, cultural and mythological history. Often inserting images of himself into the work, Forde connects the personal to the collective and the historical to the present.
