Camara Oscura Art Gallery,
As in much of her work, the placement of Brotherus’ own body within the image imposes a tender balance between herself and the space around her.
The work of Elina Brotherus (b. 1972, Finland) is often characterised by art historical references and performative uses of her own body. Occupying both the landscape and domestic spaces, Brotherus’ images elicit an air of mystery through the performative presentation of the self; hinting at the beginnings of a story but allowing the viewer to solve a series of narrative puzzles on their own.
