Buenos Aires, Argentina
Using photographs her father took during Pinochet’s regime, the project An Oscillating Shadow exists in a space between archive and memory.
Born in Chile and living in Argentina, Celeste Rojas Mugica (b.1987) explores the construction and fallibility of memory against the background of Latin America’s recent history. Her father’s photography archive from the time of Pinochet’s regime is a crucial source of inspiration for Rojas Mugica, forming the basis of her series Constellations/Microfilm and An Oscillating Shadow. A multidisciplinary artist, Rojas Mugica employs photography, film, photobooks, and installation, sometimes reworking a project through multiple formats to reveal new perspectives.
