“WALPURG is about female power, heroism and also about becoming a victim and losing identity.“
Alíz Veronika Ács (b.1989, Hungary) explores the transcendent and ethereal. Her last two projects, WITCH and WALPURG focus on the theme of witchcraft, depicting modern day ‘witches’ in a series of portraits. Ács’ work is recognisable by the experimental approaches she employs; after printing the image, the artist uses water, light, tearing, stitching and other interventions to spontaneously disfigure her photographs. This approach makes materiality as important for Ács as the image itself.
