Having lived and worked in several countries, Morvarid K’s (b. 1982, Iran) work focuses on invisible boundaries, paradoxes, and bridging different cultures. Using photography as a basis, Morvarid creates beautiful and poetic collages, sometimes embellishing the images with ink. In her latest project, Ecotone, Morvarid takes inspiration from the Japanese art of kintsugi, coating fragments of torn photographs in gold to demonstrate how beauty can be found in fracture.

Ecotone is an observation of how fracture can be transformational. Often things are planned, assumed, and expected – until suddenly, something breaks and shifts everything.
