Stumbling upon an online art community, David Uzochukwu (b.1998, Austria) delved into self portraiture early on, developing a digital practice that favours the vulnerable and the slightly surreal. Growing up between Tyrolean mountains and Luxembourgish fields, Uzochukwu often focuses on the impact of being othered, and on nature as an extension of character, showing organic elements in constant interplay with humans. His latest series Drown in my magic references mythology, repurposing the animalism and exoticism so often projected onto black bodies to create a narrative of empowerment and tenderness. Uzochukwu is currently working towards a degree in philosophy.
