András Ladocsi

Budapest, HU

Even the hardest of substances – from telephone masts to TV aerials – seem to melt away in András Ladocsi’s (b. 1992, Hungary) creamy palette of pastel tones. An interest in ceramics, sculpture and painting has shaped his experiments with layers and texture. The tangibility of his photographs is furthered by a penchant for analogue cameras and handmade prints. Ladocsi has previously focused on emerging identities and the restraints of society, and although his work is characterised by its ambiguity, the narrative structure or uniform theme is open for the viewer to decide. In his latest series Swallow, Ladocsi turns to sport, exploring statuesque bodies and intensive regimes.

The series chronicles Ladocsi’s dedication to training. Tirelessly repeating lengths, rhythmic breathing and the steady motion of limbs became an act of mindfulness.
